Privacy Policy

Last updated 19 September 2026

Nofret does not collect any data. Not anonymized data, not aggregated data, not "diagnostics". There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, and no third-party SDK of any kind in the app.

This policy covers the Nofret iPhone app and this website. It is written by the person who wrote the app, and it describes what the code actually does.

No data leaves your phone

Nofret makes no network requests. There is no server behind it, because there is nothing for a server to do. The app contains no advertising SDK, no analytics SDK, no crash-reporting SDK, and no social login.

Apple's App Store privacy label for Nofret reads Data Not Collected, and the app ships a privacy manifest declaring the same.

What stays on your device

Your practice history — which positions you've learned, how fast you answer, your current stage, your streak, and your settings — is written to a file inside the app's own storage on your iPhone. It is never transmitted anywhere, and nobody but you can read it.

You can erase it at any time in Settings › Progress bypass, using Reset <tuning> progress for a single tuning or Erase all progress for everything. Deleting the app also deletes it.

Microphone and speech

Nofret can let you answer by saying a note name out loud. This is off by default, and the app only asks for microphone permission if you turn it on, from the Note ID button on the Practice tab or in Settings › Sound and input.

When it is on, speech recognition runs entirely on your device — the app requires on-device recognition and will not fall back to a network service. Your audio is not recorded, not saved, and not sent to Apple or to me. Only the recognized note letter is used, and only to score the answer you just gave. Turning the setting off stops the app using the microphone at all.

If speech mishears you repeatedly, Nofret adapts to your pronunciation using a small table of note-letter confusions stored on your device. You can clear it with Reset voice adaptation in Settings › Sound and input.

Purchases

Nofret Pro is sold through the App Store as a one-time purchase. Apple handles the entire transaction. Nofret never sees your name, your payment details, or your Apple Account — only whether this device currently holds Pro. Apple's own privacy policy governs the purchase.

Notifications

Nofret can send you a daily practice reminder if you ask it to. Reminders are scheduled locally by iOS on your device. No push server is involved and no device token is sent anywhere.

Children

Nofret is rated 4+ and is suitable for any age. Because it collects nothing from anyone, it collects nothing from children either. It contains no ads, no external links inside the drills, and no way to communicate with other people.

Your rights

Laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you the right to see, correct, export, or delete the personal data a developer holds about you. I hold none — there is no database, no mailing list, and no record of you anywhere. If you email me, I will of course have that email; I use it to answer you and nothing else, and I will delete it on request.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will appear on this page and the date at the top will change. If a future version of the app ever collects anything, that will be stated here plainly and reflected in the App Store privacy label before the release ships.
